Step-by-Step Beginner Website Building

Join us at Berks LaunchBox for a beginner’s class on website building!

This in-person session offers hands-on experience using Google Sites, a free and easy-to-use tool. Start your journey into web development by constructing your own website with helpful guidance and support.

Each major skill for building a Google Sites website will be demonstrated on a projected screen and allow you time to practice many of the skills on a dummy site you create. We won’t be trying to build your actual business website, which will take much more thought.

We will work on the following skills in Google Sites:

  1. Add and delete page sections and drag sections to new locations
  2. Inserting text
  3. Inserting photos you bring on a flash drive into your website as both a photo and as a background
  4. Insert a button for your call to action
  5. Inserting a logo if you have one and the challenges in Google Sites for shape and size of a logo for the top of the page
  6. Using each editing and formatting palette, where to find them, and what they control
  7. Insert hyperlinks from text, a button, or an image
  8. Create a new page plus how to hide a page from navigation, and change page options
  9. How to preview on computer, phone, tablet, and return to editing
  10. Add pages, subpages, and rearrange the menu order
  11. Publishing your website and how to choose its temporary URL to test on different platforms, plus how to view your website.
  12. If time: we will insert a map, a contact form, plus customize your footer
