Looking for effective strategies to help you sell your fine art and fine craft?
Learn how to prepare for a show!
We will help you with:
- Applying for shows
- Creating an engaging booth
- Pricing your work
- Sales strategies: how to turn lookers into buyers
- Setting a goal to do a show in the spring
We’ll help you fill out the form for your first show, choose a body of work to create, and set price points for sales. We’ll help you develop strategies to quickly engage customers, encouraging them to linger at your booth long enough to build genuine interest in you and your work, ultimately transforming casual lookers into buyers.
In preparation, we suggest you make a field trip to fine art/craft shows to observe successful vendors and gain insight into the market. Take time to observe pricing, booth setups, competition within your art or craft area, and what’s selling well. Don’t be afraid to talk to customers and vendors—use these opportunities for valuable customer discovery!

Tess Doran was born and raised in Ireland. She has a BA in Marketing and is a graduate of Grennan Mill Craft School, County Kilkenny, Ireland, in Silversmithing. As well as her need to be creative, she has had a lifelong fascination with why people buy things, and how people shop. When she moved to the United States, after a few years of settling in, she decided to make her sole living from her craft. For over 25 years she combined her love of making jewelry with her marketing skills and ran a successful business as a Studio Jeweler. She has been a long time member of the American Craft Council (ACC) and participated in both their wholesale and retail shows for many years, as well as prominent shows such as the Smithsonian Craft Show, the Boston Craft Market by the Arts and Crafts Society, where she won Best in Show in her medium of metals, as well as many gallery invitations and some international shows. She has also taught at the prestigious Penland School of Craft in western North Carolina.
She is currently the Director of Retail and Visitor Experience at GoggleWorks Center for the Arts in Reading PA, where she recreated and developed a thriving retail store full of locally curated work. She also does consulting work for retail businesses who need guidance developing lines of products that coincide with their mission and audience. She also took a course with Launchbox, Idea Test Lab, to help her develop a new business that she is working on.
