Be Bold Take Charge

Healthier Living

BBTC was launched to improve health in Reading through better nutrition & increased physical activity.

In August 2015, Jim Shankweiler, an Assistant Teaching Professor in the Penn State Berks Business Program, launched BBTC to improve health in Reading by improving nutrition and increasing physical activity.  Focus group research conducted by Mr. Shankweiler and the project team revealed that the root causes of poor nutrition and sedentary lifestyles exist across several social domains.  Consequently, the project is following a holistic, transformational strategy addressing food access, economic development, crime, and education–accomplished through grassroots partnerships.
