Meet Aidan Derr, Penn State graduate and recent addition in Engineering and Design to the staff of coworking company, Verde Mantis.
Aidan Derr graduated in May 2019 with a degree in Mechanical Engineering from Penn State with two years of his time spent at Penn State Berks. While at Berks campus he worked at an internship, which turned into a part time job with SFS Global, with hands-on learning in engineering and 3D printing. Aidan finished his degree at Penn State Harrisburg where he designed and engineered a medical device using 3D printing technologies. Consulting with Penn State physicians within the Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, his capstone project was able to increase efficiency and repeatability of ultrasound intramuscular injections.
After graduation Aidan spent the summer outdoors working at Hawk Mountain Scout Reservation instructing COPE (challenging outdoor personal experience) and climbing. There he taught kids skills such as rock climbing, repelling, belaying, team building, leadership, problem solving, and decision-making.
Aidan learned about the Berks Launchbox and Verde Mantis through one of Penn State Berks news articles about Verde Mantis. From there he attended a Launchbox Meetup where he made connections that led to his job interview and offer with Verde Mantis.
Aidan is grateful to work at Verde Mantis where he gets to build the Mantis 3D printer and help fulfill their mission to make the world’s easiest 3D printer.
