Membership allows use of all equipment and tools, gives access to trained staff & experienced mentors, and offers discounts on workshops that have an associated fee. 

Membership* Includes:

*All members are required to complete safety and equipment training and sign a user agreement. The Berks LaunchBox (BLB) manager may limit the number of users at any one time to avoid overcrowding. 

  • Equipment Access (3D Printers, Laptops, Laser Cutter, etc.)
  • Training & Education on Equipment & Software

Materials Usage: Your membership fee includes one spool of Dremel PLA filament and five prototypes from the laser cutter per cycle. Once you exceed these allowances, you must purchase a new spool of Dremel PLA filament and materials (wood or cardboard) for the laser cutter to continue using either tool. All materials must be approved by LaunchBox staff prior to use. 

Membership Details: Membership is offered for one year or in four-month cycles: January – April, May – August and September – December.   

Categories (extra materials cost not included): 

  • Maker Member ($40/cycle or $99/year): Adults interested in using the equipment and getting access to trained staff and mentors. Unlimited access during open hours. 
  • Penn State Faculty, Staff & Students (Free): Individuals currently enrolled in credit classes, teaching or working at Penn State. 
  • Non-Penn State Students & Faculty, Veterans or Active Military, and GoggleWorks Members (20% discount): Individuals currently teaching or attending classes at an accredited institution of higher education or in Berks County schools plus those in active military service or veterans. 
  • Mini-Maker (Free): Those under 18 years of age are granted access only when accompanied and properly supervised by a member.  

Volunteering: Fees may be waived at the discretion of the BLB Manager when a member is willing to volunteer their time (5 hours/month) and undergo necessary training, including PA Criminal Background Check and Child Safety Training. Responsibilities include training, certifying and assisting members on use of tools and equipment.
